888 Joins Alberta’s Growing List of Approved iGaming Operators

Alberta’s upcoming iGaming launch has taken another step forward as 888 joins the growing list of operators approved to enter the province’s new regulated market.

888 has secured its place on Alberta’s list of approved operators as the province moves toward the launch of its regulated online gambling market on 13 July launch. The latest update from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) confirms that 47 operators are now registered to participate when the market opens.

The approval for 888 appears under Evoke plc’s 888 Casino, extending the brand’s Canadian footprint beyond Ontario, where it already operates within Ontario’s regulated market. While Alberta has not yet confirmed how online poker will be structured, 888 is positioned to expand into that vertical if the province develops a formal framework.

Alberta’s competitive iGaming model was enabled through the iGaming Alberta Act (Bill 48), which established the regulatory structure and confirmed that AGLC will oversee compliance while the Alberta iGaming Corporation manages commercial agreements. Registration activity has accelerated in recent months, with major operators such as BetMGM, FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars, bet365, BetRivers, Betway, Hollywood Casino and several Canadian-owned brands already approved.

Supplier interest has also been strong, with technology providers preparing to support operators as they integrate with Alberta’s centralised self-exclusion system, which links online and land-based gambling exclusions across the province. This update follows the latest news released by the regulator.

One notable absence from the current list is NSUS Group, the parent company of GGPoker, which has not yet appeared among approved operators or suppliers. Poker remains a key area of industry speculation as Alberta finalises its market structure.

When the market opens in July, Alberta will become the second Canadian province to allow private-sector operators to offer regulated online gambling, following Ontario’s launch in 2022. The move is expected to shift players from offshore sites into a supervised environment while creating new commercial opportunities across casino, sportsbook and potentially poker.
