Key Points

  • Fanatics Casino becomes Ontario’s 50th licensed operator.
  • Sports betting and Alberta entry planned for 2027.
  • Ontario’s iCasino market dominates with nearly 90% of total wagers.
  • Fanatics aims to leverage its sports partnerships to attract Canadian players.
  • Expansion follows rapid U.S. growth after acquiring PointsBet USA.

Fanatics Casino Officially Launches in Ontario

Fanatics Betting & Gaming (FBG) has officially entered Canada’s regulated online gambling space with the launch of Fanatics Casino on September 1. The operator received approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and became the 50th active operator in the province.

FBG’s President of Gaming, Conor Grant, confirmed that the company will expand further in 2027 by introducing Fanatics Sportsbook in Ontario and entering Alberta’s regulated iGaming market.

Why Fanatics Started With Casino First

Although Fanatics is widely known for its sports merchandise business, its Ontario rollout focuses solely on casino gaming. Grant explained that the decision reflects Ontario’s market dynamics, where online casino activity accounts for nearly 90% of all wagers and 80% of gross gaming revenue.

More details on licensing are available in our AGCO Article.

Grant noted that launching casino first allowed Fanatics to go live faster while preparing its sportsbook for a 2027 debut.

Ontario’s Casino Market Dominates

Ontario continues to be a casino‑heavy jurisdiction. In July 2026, Ontarians wagered $8.78 billion on iCasino platforms — an all‑time monthly record.

Fanatics Casino enters this environment with a curated portfolio of live dealer, slot, and table games from leading suppliers including Evolution, IGT, and Playtech.

Alberta Expansion Planned for 2027

Fanatics Betting & Gaming also plans to launch in Alberta in 2027, following the province’s opening of its regulated iGaming market earlier this year. Alberta’s regulatory framework is overseen by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis.

More details on Alberta’s market can be found in our AGLC Article.

Grant confirmed Alberta is “on the roadmap,” emphasizing that success in Ontario will set the foundation for broader Canadian growth.

Sports Roots Strengthen Fanatics’ Casino Appeal

Despite focusing on casino, Fanatics continues to draw on its sports heritage. The company is the official jersey provider for the NHL and its Canadian teams, and partners with Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Toronto Raptors, Canada Basketball, Canada Soccer, and Hockey Canada.

Grant believes this existing brand presence gives Fanatics a unique edge in Canada’s competitive iGaming market.

Proprietary Content and Marketing

Fanatics Casino holds an exclusive gaming deal with WWE, launching its first branded casino game earlier this year. Grant said the company will continue exploring proprietary content and targeted marketing tailored to Canadian audiences.

Competing in a Crowded Market

Fanatics joins a lineup of major operators already active in Ontario, including BetMGM, FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars, bet365, and Hard Rock Bet. After rapid U.S. growth since acquiring PointsBet USA in 2023, Fanatics is confident it can capture a significant share of Canada’s online gambling market.
